Print Friendy PageUNHCR | Washington Regional Office External Relations UnitThe External Relations unit in Washington D.C. provides information about UNHCR’s global activities to the various branches of the US Government including Congress. In addition it liaises with governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations on matters of general refugee policy and UNHCR protection and assistance programs. External relations officers represent UNHCR activities and the needs of refugees to U.S. congressional and administrative offices concerned with refugee assistance and solutions for refugee situations. As UNHCR’s largest donor, the US takes a keen interest in UNHCR’s protection activities around the world. The External Relations unit is in daily contact with government officials and members of Congress and their staff about policy issues, providing updates on recent emergencies or assists with individual case requests originating from constituents. The External Relations Unit also facilitates visits from UNHCR colleagues in the field. UNHCR officials from crucial operations visit Washington to share their work and experiences with policy makers. |
