Print Friendy PageUNHCR | Washington Regional Office Caribbean UnitUNHCR’s Caribbean Unit, based in Washington, operates with a staff of four – a Senior Regional Protection Officer, a Regional Protection Officer, a Senior Protection Associate and a Program Associate. These staff undertake frequent missions to the Caribbean states and territories to provide support and advisory services to governments, to interview and determine the status of asylum seekers, and to work with local partners to deliver assistance and durable solutions to recognized refugees. The Caribbean Unit also undertakes activities to promote the prevention and reduction of statelessness. What countries and territories does UNHCR’s Caribbean Unit cover?The Caribbean Unit is responsible for UNHCR’s activities in the independent states of Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, the British overseas territories of: Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the territories of the Netherlands: Aruba, Curacao, and Sint Maarten. UNHCR Washington also provides operational assistance to UNHCR´s Office in Paris when needed in relation to the French overseas departments in the Caribbean. UNHCR activities in Cuba are directed from UNHCR´s Regional hub in Panama. |
