1. Tell us what you think!

As the year 2007 comes to a close, we thought it would be a great time to generate some feedback from you, E-Alert readers. Please take a moment to fill out this short survey, and let us know what is important to you, because that is what is important to us!

2. DVD: See what we've been writing about

As discussed in previous editions of E-Alert, UNHCR Goodwill Envoy Khaled Hosseini visited Afghanistan in September. Now you and your students have a chance to witness his experiences in Afghanistan firsthand.

If you are interested in receiving a free copy of the DVD "UNHCR Envoy Khaled Hosseini Visits Afghanistan", documenting Hosseini's visit, please send an email to usawaedu@unhcr.org. Be sure to include your mailing address!

3. UNHCR Star Appeal

"The Star Appeal benefits refugee children who find themselves far from home this holiday season. Many are living in refugee camps in terribly harsh conditions. Some of these children have been separated from their families. Some have lost them forever. The UN Refugee Agency is working to ensure that these refugee children have the food, clean water, shelter, protection, and education they need to secure a chance for a better future. Your gift makes all this possible.

"Your generous support will make a vital difference in the lives of refugee children unable to go home this holiday season."

In the past two years, individuals across the world have set aside money at the end of the year to help a refugee child. Click here read more about UNHCR's Star Appeal.

4. News to use:

World AIDS Day: As you may know, World AIDS Day was Saturday, December 1, 2007. UNHCR has created a special web-page about Refugees and HIV/AIDS, where you can read about a variety of topics; from UNHCR's HIV and AIDS policies to the latest news stories about refugees and HIV and AIDS. UNHCR strives to ensure that refugees live in dignity, free from discrimination, regardless of their HIV status, and to provide at least the core HIV/AIDS interventions during emergencies.

Sudan: Did you read the interview in last month's E-Alert about "Lost Boy" John Dau? Here is a recent story about two Lost Boys who ended up in Cuba over twenty years ago, and are now returning to Sudan. Two of Sudan's 'Lost Boys' return home from Cuba

Happy Holidays!
